Worship in the Garden

Our worship is the source of all that we do at the Garden.

We gather for worship as a community, on Sundays at 8 and 10AM and 5PM. We also have a Tuesday morning, 7AM Communion service.  All are welcome to share in these worship experiences.  Scroll down for descriptions o four different services.

Each service has several components, the two primary ones being, breaking open the word and Communion.  Breaking open the word involves listening to Holy Scripture, both read and sung in our music, and applying it to our own lives as we joyously live out God’s call to us.  Communion is the celebration and commemoration of Jesus’ last supper with the disciples.  It is our “altar call”, our chance to come to God with all that is weighing us down or lifting us up, to leave with God as we are fed by the body and blood of Jesus Christ.  In the Garden, all are welcome to share in this sacrament.

You will see and experience a variety of actions and movement during our services.  Some people will stand, even as others kneel or sit.  Some will cross themselves, others do not.  Some bow deeply and move solemnly when going to their seats, children run to the Children’s area near the front of the sanctuary to begin playing with crayons and toys.  Whatever you are comfortable with whatever traditions and practices you have made part of your own personal expression of gratitude towards God, are welcome.  Do what you feel is right as you worship and praise God with us.

8AM SUNDAY SERVICE – A Quiet Traditional Service
At 8AM on Sunday mornings we celebrate Holy Communion using a form of worship called Rite 1.  Rite 1 engages form and language that is closest to our original 1549 prayer book.  At this service we use older forms of English such as thee, thy and thou.  It is a quiet service without music and is filled with traditional ritual and symbolic actions done in worship such as kneeling, making the sign of the cross or bowing.  The service is held in the chapel, which is along the North side of the church building as you enter the sanctuary.

10AM SUNDAY SERVICE – A Lively Family Oriented Service
Our principal service at 10AM is a service of Holy Communion using contemporary language.  Music is led by choir, organ and piano.  We warmly welcome all families, a children’s area is available within the sanctuary where children can move around, play and worship during the service.  On the fourth Sunday of every month, we have a Jazz Mass featuring pianist Laura Caviani, saxophonist Pete Whitman and on percussion, Daryl Boudreaux.

5PM SUNDAY SERVICE – Bible study and Communion
The 5PM service focuses on studying the bible, using the Gospel Based Discipleship model of study.  We focus on how the Scripture is speaking to us, it is a participatory process of sharing with those present, learning and listening how God is active in our lives today.  The service concludes with Communion, all are welcome, and encouraged to participate in this service. The service is a blend of all ages of people.  All are welcome to participate.

7AM TUESDAY SERVICE – Get your week started on the right foot
Have to be to work at 8AM?  Are you a morning person anyway?  Join us for this 7AM service, a warm, welcoming group of people sharing in the Word and breaking bread together, joyfully and with much laughter.  It’s fun, and a great way to start your day/week.
